Muskrat Haven Farms
Submitted by Lindsey Wangsgard, Rappahannock County, Va.
As a parent of small children, I am constantly looking for things to do with my kids. Activities that get them out and burn off the undending amount of wild energy they possess. I mean come on- what parent doesn’t like it when their kids take longer naps or go to bed easily from a tiring day? I know I do. So, one of my most favorite places to take my two little boys, Jared and Joel, is Muskrat Haven Farms in Rappahannock County.
My boys, ages 3 and 1, have both enjoyed our many trips to Muskrat Haven Farms. Not just for the berries- which they do love to stand around and eat from the vine (even better- no pesticides used!), but for the fun outdoor play.
The farm stand is located right of Route 211 in Amissville, Virginia. Late April through mid June the huge farm produces a variety of berries – blueberries, rasperries, black rasperries, and others. The fabulous part – you can pop in and just buy some, or stop in, grab a bucket, and head down the road to the farm entrance where you can drive to the berry field you want and pick your own.
Bring a picnic and enjoy the beautiful drive and fresh air of the Rappahannock countryside.
